The Muse and the Space
Prototypes of Space in the Architectural Experience of the Museum
Erasmus+ BIP Collaboration
24.04. – 02.05.2026
This workshop brings together students from six European universities to explore the museum as a unique architectural space – at once social and intimate, public and deeply experiential.
Task
The workshop explores the museum as a specific architectural typology and a unique spatial experience. Particularly in Berlin, museums are deeply embedded in a rich architectural culture – from Schinkel’s urban vision to the cultural landscapes of the Kulturforum and cinematic portrayals such as Wim Wenders’ interpretation of Potsdamer Platz.
The museum stands out among public buildings as both a social and intimate space. Beyond housing art, it becomes an experience in itself – an open field for perception, movement and collective life.
Rather than focusing on exhibition design, the workshop investigates the museum space as exhibition: shaped by light (Kahn’s Kimbell Art Museum), path (Wright’s Guggenheim, Utzon’s Silkeborg Museum), shadow (Le Corbusier’s Tour des Ombres) or urban structure (Schinkel’s Altes Museum).
The studio explores the possibilities of an “architecture of inspiration” and the museum as a democratic, collective and potentially open-ended space. Are the Muses still inspiring civilisation through art and poetry?

Erasmus+ BIP Collaboration
Within the Erasmus+ framework of Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs), the focus is on developing new, joint mobility formats and activities in collaboration with multiple partner universities. These programmes combine a short on-site phase with a virtual component of flexible duration, enabling continuous and collaborative learning.
