Task
What do terms like “memory”, or “forgotten place” mean in a city like Berlin? In this city the urban fabric has, over the last hundred years, been written, erased and rewritten again and again. Imperial Germany, wars and revolution, democracy, fascism, Stalinism, the Cold War, they have all left their mark. Different phases of modernity (in which policy and urban planning can be identified) have had their dazzling and traumatic epicenter here. Work will focus on documentary research, using video as the main tool, aiming to discover the forgotten memory of the public spaces and architectural heritage unique to Berlin.
This university design studio is part of the ANCB theme Identity in Place.
