This studio asks how a city expresses its hostilities. Its central interest is to explore the way in which cities can be inclusive and/or exclusionary – physically, socially and ideologically.

Task
Compared to most cities, Berlin has a pronounced history of social exclusion and ideological seclusion. In this context this studio asks how a city expresses its hostilities and how architecture can foster cities. Its central interest is to explore the way in which cities can be inclusive and/or exclusionary – physically, socially and ideologically. Over three weeks the intensive design studio work will explore these themes with the area in and around the Kulturforum as case study, exchanging with the parallel design studios by Universidad Diego Portales and the University of Technology, Sydney.
