Introduction
The format is conceived as a kitchen-style conversation: experimental, convivial and shared. What’s Cooking? connects designers, architects, artists and practitioners from diverse professional and social contexts for short inputs, unexpected perspectives and open exchanges of experiences and ideas. Each event features a protagonist who invites a guest from another discipline, creating dialogue across architecture, design, science, culture and politics.
The protagonist, Silvia Gioberti, is a Berlin-based architect, art producer and urban practitioner. As co-founder of the artist collective Guerilla Architects, she engages with the social and spatial dimensions of public space, challenging established norms through design and unconventional use. Through freelance art production she has developed a deep curiosity about authorship and the politics of place. Since 2022 she has been a research associate at the Berlin University of the Arts, exploring how communities can shape and claim the spaces they inhabit.
Her guest is Christian Schmidts, a Berlin-based designer, artist, and educator born in Transylvania, Romania, whose practice spans architecture, media art, and research. A research assistant in the Department of Digital and Experimental Design at the Berlin University of the Arts, his work explores computational design, real-time environments, game engines, and machine learning in relation to performance and human-machine interaction. He is involved in the interdisciplinary Master’s program Design & Computation, jointly run by the Berlin University of the Arts and the Technical University of Berlin.
Silvia Gioberti and Christian Schmidts bring together computational design and embodied spatial practice for an informal conversation on performance, presence and the real and digital body in space.
