Transmaterial Aesthetics: Experiments with Timber in Architecture and Technology
The International Conference by HS Wismar and UTS Sydney explored the increasing use of timber in architecture, showcasing how it is combined with other materials to create innovative structures with altered properties. The conference highlighted the emergence of a new techno-aesthetic paradigm called transmateriality and referenced historical and contemporary examples of timber applications in architecture.
SMART CITY: THE NEXT GENERATION
Four workshops, an exhibition and a conference to present intelligent solutions for environmental, infrastructural, societal, and sustainability challenges in urban contexts. Featuring established and emerging actors from Southeast Asia, aiming to make cities more efficient and livable by rethinking existing infrastructures of dealing with water, energy, and mobility. Partners:Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin, Goethe Institut
Innovative Werkstoffe für die Energiewende
The decision to transition to renewable energy by the federal government has sparked an innovation surge, allowing for smaller-scale and decentralized energy production, making the use of energy-efficient materials and technologies more appealing to designers and architects. Partners:TSB Technologiestiftung Berlin; HAUTE INNOVATION - Agentur für Material und Technologie, Berlin
Lab Talk Series: The City Lights Project
The three-part series features discussions on the role of light in architecture and urban environments, with a focus on the interplay between architecture, virtual scenarios, and the representation of unrealized visions for evolving cities. Partners:Zumtobel, Dornbirn
My Home is My Bottle
A conversation about the potential of recycled plastic bottles as a new sustainable building material. Partners: Taipeh Vertretung in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland
Design and Politics. #2 On the Surface of Architecture
Material researchers and developers increasingly collaborate with designers, architects and engineers to apply new materials and technologies. But are these collaborations emerging in response to opportunities presented for architectural design or to a societal demand for sensory stimulation in the city experience? Is the surface of the city replacing urban structure as the new meaning of urban fabric? How can we make city out of skin?
