SPACES AND SPECIES
Biodiversity and Cohabitation
This theme re-examines the way we plan our built environment, taking biological diversity and animal cohabitation into account.
Concept
SPACES AND SPECIES re-examines the way we plan our built environment, taking biological diversity and animal co-habutation into account. The dramatic decline in biodiversity threatens the ecosystem of our planet and thus our habitat at a global scale. Architecture and building have a profound impact on animal survival and species conservation as a whole. Planners need to develop a new awareness for this responsibility and re-examine the way we build, taking animal cohabitation into account.
This theme aims to raise this awareness, communicate it into all areas of society, create new networks and support further education for architects, planners and designers on the topic. How can biodiversity be practicably integrated into planning processes or certifications? What is the connection between biodiversity and climate protection in cities? How can we integrate new materials and techniques that favour biodiversity? How is it possible to achieve a wider acceptance, live together and share spaces with fauna and flora?
